U.N.O.A. Benevolent Golf
For the past seven years U.N.O.A. has hosted a benevolent golf tournament each spring. The tournament has two major
objectives. First, to raise money for the families of fallen, seriously injured or ill law enforcement officers. The second
reason is to bring local, state and federal police officers together each spring to enjoy the unique comradery that exists
when more than 140 officers come together to enjoy one another’s company, support fellow officers and compete or
at least participate in an event together.
Each year dozens of hours are spent by officers putting this event together. Negotiations with local golf courses
start as early as December of the previous year. Once a site is determined to host the tournament officers begin to try and
solicit private sponsors. The drive for sponsors and a host golf course has created many friends for the U.N.O.A. organization
over the years. Several of the sponsors of the benevolent golf tournament have supported this cause for many years including
Garff Auto Sales, Super Sonic Car Wash, Budweiser, Skaggs, Timpanogos Harley and many others. Next to the officers
that participate themselves, these sponsors are the lifeline of this yearly event. While sponsorship has become a much
tougher proposition for businesses in these trying economic times, both the companies and officers continue to come through
in support of this worthy cause.
This year’s tournament was the largest ever as far as golfer participation with 158 golfers teeing it up. Officers
and their friends came from all over the state to play in this event. Golfers of every talent level play in this tournament
which makes for an interesting and entertaining day. Year in and year out the chance for officers to come together each spring
is what has brought such great appeal and success to this event. Whether you are a serious golfer, a recreational golfer
or a hacker makes little difference. The chance to associate with one another while helping out brothers and sisters in law
enforcement is the reward each and every officer gets out of participating in this event. Whether you play in the tournament,
volunteer time for the tournament, sponsor the tournament, host the tournament or in some cases all of the above, you
are assured that you are contributing to a great cause and will be amongst great company.
U.N.O.A. looks forward to sponsoring this event every year and will continue to do so well
into the future. While it seems the old faces are there year in and year out, it is great to see new officers step up
to support their fellow officers and their families. U.N.O.A. will continue to put on a great tournament with the assistance
of our private business partners. All we have to do is go play a round of golf at least once a year with our fellow officers.
Thanks for your participation and generosity in supporting this great event. See you next year.
