President’s Message:
by Senior Special Agent Timothy Chard, ICE
I want to first tell everyone
how much I have enjoyed being the president of UNOA. I have been in this position for over 8 months and
am looking forward to the upcoming annual conference in September. I want to let you know of some of the
things we have done so far this year and things that are upcoming for 2008.
UNOA and Western States Publishing
has been working together with the Drug Endangered Children Association (DEC) as the primary organization that we will donate
too. We have donated backpacks full of numerous items to this organization to be given to children that
are removed from drug homes. If you have any suggestions or ways of getting items donated to put into these
backpacks, feel free in contacting your UNOA Board Members.
On March 21, 2008, UNOA sponsored
a seminar with Lt. Colonel Dave Grossman on “The Bullet Proof Mind”. We had an overwhelming
turnout of over 300 law enforcement officers. It was as usual, a great seminar by Mr. Grossman.
I want to thank everyone who helped make the seminar a great event. Because of the great turnout
and the request to bring him back again, we will be having another seminar with Mr. Grossman in March 2009. When
everything is set on a date for this seminar, it will be on our website for registration. I suggest you
get your seats early as it was sold out the last two times he was here.
On May 1st, 2008, UNOA conducted a training course on Marijuana
Indoor Grow Investigations in Cedar City. Thank you to everyone who helped coordinate and make this training
possible for our fellow officers.
On May 15th, 2008, we had our annual Benevolent Golf Tournament, which
as every year, it was sold out. Unfortunately, I had to go out of town for my job and missed it, but was
told my team took the hackers award, Beaver math at its finest. Thanks to the UNOA Board for stepping up
to plate and making this golf tournament a success.
Our annual UNOA Conference is coming soon. The golf
tournament is on September 08, 2008 in St. George and the conference is on September 09, 10 & 11, 2008 in Mesquite at
the Casablanca Resort. We have worked hard to bring you the best training possible. Our
website has the agenda and registration forms for the conference.
I just want to say thank you for
the opportunity to serve you as the president of UNOA. If you have any questions or concerns, you may contact
me at any time and I will be more than happy to assist you in any way I can. If you have any ideas or suggestions
for training in your area, please contact your Regional Chairman or Representatives and we will do our best to get the training
to your area. Stay safe and look forward to seeing all of you throughout the rest of the year at the trainings
and this years’ conference.
